Canada’s Contribution to the Commons: Creating a Culture of Open Education.

‚In this paper a vision for a future where Open Education (OE) culture thrives is presented. Open Education is a collection of practices and principles that encourage collaboration among educators to create educational resources that can be freely shared and distributed for learning and further collaboration. A review of the importance and benefits of Open Education is conducted by exploring the basic principles and practices of Open Education. The growth of Open Education around the world is illustrated. The specific practices of Open Education using examples of places and spaces where Open Education is thriving are described. A commentary is provided on the challenges facing Open Education advocates in Canada. The primary focus of this report is to provide recommendations for post-secondary educational institutions on how they can adopt Open Education cultures.‘ (From the author’s introduction).
